Should You Repair or Replace Your Driveway?

Should You Repair or Replace Your Driveway?

Is your driveway cracked, pitted, or just really stained? You might think you can save money by making repairs, but you might be better off getting it replaced altogether. Here are the signs that you need to replace your driveway and when a simple repair or sealant might suffice.

Should You Repair or Replace Your Driveway?

Stained concrete

Do you like to work on cars in your spare time, either as a hobby or as a side gig? If so, you probably have a pretty stained driveway. You could replace it with asphalt, but there are definitely downsides to that, too. Thankfully, there are some sealants or coatings for concrete driveways that cover up the current stains and provide you with a stain resistant surface.

Pits in asphalt

While you can patch asphalt, there are some instances in which you will definitely want to replace it instead. If your asphalt driveway was never properly sealed or if it was not maintained correctly, patching it will be a very temporary fix. On the other hand, if you had a mishap cause a pit in an otherwise well-maintained driveway, the asphalt would be able to be patched.

Accessibility

If you or a loved one have mobility issues, you may need to make your driveway more accessible. Making the driveway level is just part of the problem. You may not be able to just have the driveway graded. For the fix to be permanent and completely safe, you may need to replace the driveway and the walkway to the house completely.
